The new Dark Chocolate Soap !!

I packaged the first batch of my chocolate soap last night... it does not smell sweet but more like un sweetened dark chocolate... I think in the next batch I may add some honey to sweeten its scent... I useda bar in the shower and was amazed at how soft my skin felt. I did a little more research and found this little tidbit of info to share with you about Cocoa and your skin....

"Cocoa is known to contain valuable anti-oxidants and is reported to assist with sluggish circulation as well as promoting softer, more youthful skin. Anti-oxidants aid in protecting the cells, collagen and elastin from damage caused by free radicals found in our environment. Cocoa has also been used throughout history as an aphrodisiac. This may be due to the positive effects of flavonols - active constituents naturally found in cacao."

So there you have it.. the chocolate soap is full of good stuff for your skin! If you want a bar I only have 10 left.. I will be making more next week but it will not be ready till october!

Happy showering folks.

and the winner is >>>>>>>>>>>

So Jaimie-Lyn is the winner... they use extracts from a red bug called the "cochineal", a very little bug that drinks the juice of a cactus... it takes 70,000 of these little bugs to make one pound of dye..... I liked Babi's response of "beet root" it is a much nicer way to dye something red... Clay is another way to dye cosmetics...

Jaimie-lyn you win a bath bombs and a $5 jewelry gift certificate :)

Pink swirled soap.. the new frontier !

So I have finally learned how to properly swirl clay and other natural colours into the soap for a very cool look !!! it only took me till midnight last night to figure it out. Geesh.... but it looks cool... A new soap for you all. Bergamot facial soap with grapefruit, jasmine, pink french clay, shea butter, cocoa butter and calendula petals... It smells dreamy and looks pretty too! It has to cure for 5-6 weeks.. but when its done you are gonna love it. Next on the agenda is swirled lime twist soap. I will achieve a green colour using alfalfa and spinach powder.. I plan to stick to my rule of no synthetic dye or fragrance. The only execption I will make is for Mica.. but then again who wouldn't make an exeption for sparkly glitter ;)

Trivia Question : What is red synthetic dye/colour made from ????? The only hint I will give you is that you might think twice about red candy, red jello and red cosmetics when you find out!

The first person to post the correct answer will win 1 free bath bomb and a $5 jewelry voucher!

Australian red clay soap !!!

Red soap.. I mean really red soap ! Clay clay clay.... hooray for clay... it's a natural way to colour soap and its good for your skin. Now that is a great combination.... So I used my new red australian clay to make a rose soap... and it looks amazing... deep rich burgundy red with ground rose petals... and it smells good too! orange and rose... and afew other goodies in there too... It will be ready in 4 weeks and I am having a very hard time waiting for it. That is one thing about soap making that is very very hard.. it is a big old lesson in patience. You make it but you can't use for weeks and weeks. So that means if you make a mistake you won't know for a whole month or more... I have been very fortunate thus far and have only had one bad batch of soap.... I have ordered french clay in green and in pink and plan to make some lovely soap creations soon.. I think a swirled lemon lime bar is in order... and a pink clay baby soap too !

The specials for following my blog are any 5 bath bombs for $12 (offer good till the end of next week) and a new special... buy any 5 bars of soap and get a free lip balm !!!! also good till next friday !!!! come visit me and see what I have in stock... if you live far away I can ship to you :)

Happy showering folks...

Treasures......

One morning spent yard sailing with a big old coffee and I come home with a car FULL of very cool goodies... Shelves for soap displays.. $2 ! A little adjustments and some spray paint and I will have one very cool soap set up for vending... I am very excited! Now its soap making time... Bloody orange shaving soap here I come...... It is time to make soap... lots of soap before the warm weather takes over and my soap becomes curd! Making soap on a hot august day just does not work.. tried it once last year and ended with with a big old batch of yummy smelling cheese curd looking goo... it was a sad sad day for me.. my 2nd ever batch of soap.... in the garbage... I had no idea that hot muggy weather makes for poor soaping. Lesson learned... plans to make about 20 batches of soap this month.... stock up for summer... Carl and Jet have made me 4 soap molds this weekend... that should keep me going for a very long time...

As for all of you... your input and ideas are always welcome... if you have a favourite essential oil combo let me know.. I am open to new ideas.. and I love to make custom soaps... ! Please do leave me comments.. tell me about my soap..... after all its you guys and gals who keep me going... I am off to hang my laundry on the line.. and I am seriously considering making a laundry soap for scrubbing stains !!! some day soon....

Happy showering... and enjoy this sunny day !

What comes next ?

My whole kitchen smells like lime, I have lime twist soap curing on the counter, cheeky lime shaving soap curing above the laundry machine and a basement full of all sorts of other soap creations.... and the list goes on.. So what's next? Well I have this big idea to make another fancy guy soap called "Bloody Orange Shaving Soap". It will be dark rich red(full of australian red clay).. and it will smell like blood orange.... with a hint of sweet orange and tangerine..... meant for straight razors and old fashioned shaving brushes... I might even try to make it round !!!!! to fit into those cute little shaving cups... now there's an idea ! I have asked a local potter to make me some custom shaving mugs and I am totally looking into shaving brushes too! Men are getting back in touch with the whole hoopla that comes along with natural care products.. I love it! I thinks it says a lot about a guy.. straight razor and all... sexy in some old fashioned bloody way ;) Now if only they could let their gals shave them... an exercise in trust ;)
I sold 4 bars of shaving soap today..... and I am making the bloody orange shaving soap tonight... in 6 weeks it will be ready to take over the world one shave at a time !

Happy showering ... and if you need some fantastic soap.. you know where to go ;) and I can ship anywhere ! www.shivasdelight.com

I bet you didn't know that !

Did you know that big soap companies take the best part of the soap "away" during the soapmaking process ???? Well they do! Most companies remove the glycerin from their soap.. and its the glycerin that moisturizes and leaves you feeling soft and silky !! Ever notice that after scrubbing down with a big brand bar you feel all dry and you need moisturizer to quench your thirsty skin?? That's cause they take out all the good stuff..... I was really shocked when I learned this... it seems so silly to remove the good part of the soap and leave the chemical stuff behind... hmmmm.. why they do this I am not totally sure... but seeing as how many of them have their own line of lotions and creams that work oh so well after a good shower.. well that may be the motivation right there.....
I don't do that to my soap.. and I am proud to say that one of my biggest compliments had been how people don't feel all dry and itchy after using my bars... their skin feels soft :) I guess I must be doing something right! Now to take on health canada... get those labels approved and hope that they like my natural recipes...My soap will clean up the world one soul at a time!

Happy bathing folks !!

A vision of soap !

So here I am sitting here trying so very hard to write about my life and soap making... hmmm....
While I sit here images of lemon poppyseed soap whirl through my head..... and I hear a little voice saying " ya make soap... it smells great, its natural, and people like it" so there it is ! I make soap. I make soap that looks and smells good enough to eat.. a child once took a bite out of a bar of my lemon poppyseed soap thinking it was candy! Soap is my new passion.. I love to make it, I love to use it, I love to share it and I love to sell it... I get more excited about creating a new soap recipe than I do about shopping (and I love shopping). Making soap is like art and science all in one! It takes a creative mind, precise math, and a nose for scent blending...and a boat load of patience.... Did you know it takes 4-6 weeks for a bar of soap to cure...that means that everytime I create a new recipe I can't test it out for ages... patience patience and more patience... but when its finally ready its like mini christmas.... a fancy little bar of soap all for me, made by me... :) My favourite soap thus far is lime twist, and lemon poppyseed... both smell like a wee bit of heaven.. and they make bath time a lot more fun ;) If you like soap you should give mine a try... www.shivasdelight.com

So there it is, my first blog about soap making and my life! Much more to come but for now.. goodnight.

pleasant dreams and happy showering

Casey :)
